Academic System

BRU has adopted the semester system. An academic year is divided into two semesters and a summer session for part-time students. A semester lasts approximately sixteen weeks.

One credit hour requires a minimum of 15 hours of class attendance and a subject with 3 credits hours will require at least 45 hours class time. To qualify for the final examination in any subject, each student must be present for at least 80 % of the class meetings.

A student’s course load may vary from semester to semester. The minimum for all full-time students is 9 credit hours per semester; the maximum course load is 22 credit hours per semester. The maximum for all part-time (weekend) students is 12 credit hours per semester, and in the summer session they cannot enroll in more than 9 credit hours.

Letter grades are used for the academic standing of a student, with the following definitions and values:

       Grade                      Definition                             Value

       A                             Excellence                             4.00

       B+                           Very Good                            3.50

       B                             Good                                   3.00

       C+                           Fairly Good                           2.50

       C                             Fair                                     2.00

       D+                           Poor                                   1.50

       D                             Very Poor                            1.00
